Dental cleaning

A professional cleaning every six months is the smallest investment with the biggest return for your oral health.

Approximate duration30–45 minutes
Visits1 (every 6 months)
AnesthesiaNot needed
RecoveryImmediate

No matter how well you brush, some plaque hardens into tartar — and tartar can only be removed with professional instruments. A dental cleaning (prophylaxis) removes tartar, plaque and surface stains, leaving teeth smooth and gums healthy.

Beyond esthetics, it's pure prevention: built-up tartar is the main cause of gingivitis, bad breath and, over time, the gum disease that loosens teeth.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Does a dental cleaning hurt?

No. You may feel mild sensitivity if you have heavy tartar buildup or inflamed gums, but it's a quick, very tolerable procedure.

How often should I get a cleaning?

Every 6 months for most people. If you build up tartar quickly or have gum issues, the doctor may recommend every 3–4 months.

Does a cleaning whiten teeth?

It restores your enamel's natural shade by removing stains and tartar — already a visible improvement. For a shade whiter than natural, you'd need a whitening treatment.
